                                                   On a train journey from Calcutta to

                                                   Darjeeling, receives the “call within a call”

                                                   to “quench the infinite thirst of Jesus on the Cross

                                                   for love and souls” by “laboring at the salvation and

                                                   sanctification of the poorest of the poor”. This call

                                                   was to give rise to the Missionaries of Charity (MC)

                                                   family.  Begins to receive a series of interior

                                                   locutions that continues until mid-1947.

 

                                                1948

                                    12 April

                                                   Decree of Exclaustration granted by Pope Pius XII -

                                                   permission from the Holy See to leave Loreto in

                                                   order to begin her mission among the poorest of the

                                                   poor in the streets of Calcutta.

 

                                    17 August

                                                   Leaves Loreto, wearing a white, blue-bordered

                                                   sari for the first time, and goes to Patna for a medical

                                                   course with the Medical Mission Sisters as

                                                   preparation for her new mission.
