Quotes of Mother Teresa on the Family
Love begins at home, and destruction and hatred begin at home also.
Let us bring Jesus in their families by consecrating them to the Sacred Heart, by teaching them to pray the Rosary, by bringing prayer into their lives. Priests used to do that before so easily, used to come in the family and be with the family and pray with the family, consecrate the family to the Sacred Heart and this has to come back. And I ask you to help us to consecrate the families to the Sacred Heart because if we bring Jesus back in their lives, we will bring peace, joy and holiness.
So bring prayer to your family, bring back again to your children. Ask, teach them to pray for a child that prays is a happy child. A family that prays is the united family. We hear of so many broken families and … where? Why is this? Because they never pray together. They are never one in prayer … and we have forgotten that God loves us, that we have been created for greater things. … we must experience love.
"More and more people realize that unless we bring back prayer and love into the family we will never have peace."
So let us pray. Where does this love begin? In our own home. How does it begin? By loving one another. But we cannot love one another unless we pray for prayer gives a clean heart. Prayer – family that prays together, stays together and if you stay together, you will love one another as God loves you. And the fruit of that prayer is love, joy, peace. The fruit of prayer is deepening of faith and the fruit of faith is love and the fruit of love is service and the fruit of service is peace. And the world and you and I have never needed peace so much as today – all over the world terrible suffering, terrible hunger for love and we know what’s happening.
People are so busy, so occupied that they have no time to even smile at each other. They have no time to enjoy each other, to be together, to smile, to pray together, no time. Father and mother very busy, children are left to themselves. No one in the house; the old people are put in some institution. When you come home you sit in front of the television, as relaxation little bit, but you have again no time to talk to your children, to talk to your family people, to pray together. This loss of that praying together has made it difficult for people to stay together. But if they pray together they will stay together and if they stay together they will love one another, they’ll have time for each other. This is what today is missing and that missing gap has to be filled again by bringing back Christ into the family. Abortion has been the greatest destroyer of the family life. By destroying the child they are destroying the very life of the family. That is why we need to pray to Our Lady to help us to go in search of the child and bring the child back home, for it’s the child that unites the family. And if prayer comes in, that love and tenderness [will] be [there]. Maybe still people will be poor and in need of things, but that warmth and that concern and that sharing will be always there.
“How can we love Jesus in the world today? By loving Him in my husband, my wife, my children, my brothers and sisters, my parents, my neighbors, the poor.”
"The family that prays together stays together; and if you stay together, you will love one another with the same love with which God loves each one of us. Love begins in the family. Peace begins in the family. Where there is love there is unity, peace and joy.”
"True peace comes only from loving and caring and respecting each person as a child of God – my brother, my sister. I know how trying it must be at times. If you find it hard to see Jesus in the distressing disguise of someone, see that person in the Heart of Jesus. He loves her with the same love with which He loves you. This will help you to greater love – especially to the one most in need of it.”
Prayer for the Family by St. Teresa of Calcutta
Heavenly Father, you have given us the model of life in the Holy Family of Nazareth.
Help us, O Loving Father, to make our family another Nazareth where love,
peace and joy reign.
May it be deeply contemplative, intensely Eucharistic, vibrant with joy.
Help us to stay together in joy and sorrow through family prayer.
Teach us to see Jesus in the members of our families,
especially in their distressing disguise.
May the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus make our hearts meek and humble like his
and help us to carry out our family duties in a holy way.
May we love one another as God loves each one of us, more and more each day,
and forgive each other's faults as you forgive our sins.
Help us, O Loving Father, to take whatever you give
and give whatever you take with a big smile.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, cause of our joy, pray for us.
St. Joseph, pray for us.
Holy Guardian Angels, be always with us, guide and protect us.
