Mother Teresa was kind enough to mail me a hand-written reply to my letter and offer her prayers for me when she was the one who was sick and ailing a few years before she passed on to a better life. I was amazed that this woman who was a world traveler and world-renowned, would take the time for me whom she had never met. I will treasure always treasure her note. Mother Teresa represented to me a light shining in the darkness, a hope for the poor and the sick and a heart full of compassion.

The name of Mother Teresa has always been. At least it has for me a 35 year-old female living in Birmingham, Al. My family traveled the world when I was young. My father having been in the military. At 10 years-old, I arrived in Alabama. One thing to note here is that I never attended church as a kid, nor was my family at all religious. I did not know until this year that the small town ( and I do mean tiny)in which I graduated high school, had a Catholic church. About 8 years ago, I picked up a book of Mother Teresa's. It was a day-to-day book with quotes from Mother. I fell in love with her then. She gave so much to the world. I knew simply after reading her book, that she was a Godly woman - a saint on earth. One book led to another. Still the message was the same; show love to all mankind. Mother was my first taste of Catholicism. I truly believe her writings and speeches had a great deal of influence on my decision to become catholic. This past Easter, I was Confirmed. Although I share a common faith with the woman known as Mother Teresa, I know there is little else similar. I can only pray to aspire to her level.

Greetings in the peace of Christ! When I was little, I saw Mother Teresa on TV as one of the saints in my hometown was being canonized. She was also there and the cameras caught her only very briefly. My father told me that Mother Teresa was in attendance. I thought I saw another saint, as she radiated a holy humility I had never before seen in my entire life. Even though she had a small stature, to me she looked very important; and I knew she was! Two years ago, I dreamed about her telling me that she is a very effective intercessor in heaven, urging me to pray to her often. Her face then appeared on a bread, and I didn't realize what this meant. Perhaps now I can fathom its meaning in a deeper sense. For me, that symbolized her union with the Bread that nourishes our souls, her figure stamped on the body of Christ, our Eucharistic love. Until that glorious day when we can come to God face to face, then we will taste the glory that awaits us just as she now enjoys with the blessed company of the saints in heaven. Thank you for this opportunity to share my story. Blessed Mother Teresa, pray for us!

I love Mother Teresa because she changed my soul. My entire life I was a catholic but only gave lip service to the beliefs I professed to believe. One day, about a decade ago, I was leaving church after Sunday mass when I came across a book for sale on the bookrack. I forget the title. It wasn't even about Mother Teresa but had a reference to her and her work somewhere in the middle of it. That reference to her began my journey of deep introspection into who I really was. Mother Teresa's spiritual guidance contained in her writings became my model and thus through them, she became my mentor. Many, many times I would look at photographs of her in books or read captions of her statements and be filled with joy. She helped me through these books become willing to live my life for Jesus much more completely than I had been. I will ever be grateful to this truly beautiful, loving, gentle woman. She has helped me realize wholeheartedly that in this life here on earth, that there is only one thing that has true importance -- my soul. I will be much better prepared to meet our Lord when the time comes because of her..

As a young seminarian with the Norbertine Fathers studying in Rome, Italy I had the privilege of meeting Mother in 1988-89 ( the yr and day escapes me). A fellow seminarian and I found out Mother would be at San Gregorio Chiesa ( Collegio San Norberto was nearby)on a certain day so we decided to go say hello. We arrived at San Gregorio and lo and behold Mother answered the door. I was speechless but Mother was very gracious and invited us in. The Holy Hour was about to start so we stayed for the hour. Afterwards we stayed to chat with Mother. A visiting priest asked her about the Aids Farms recently founded in the US. He asked her if she and sisters were afraid of the AIDS disease. I will never forget her response “we work with over 150,000 lepers AIDS is the same. I am trust in God and am not afraid". She gave all of us a "Miraculous Medal" which I have to this day and sent us all on our way. What do I love about Mother? Her down to earth sanctity and toughness. I met a saint that day and she reminded me of a kind, wise grandma.... nothing more, nothing less ...God bless all the Missionaries of Charity.... Pray for me Mother!.
