Mother Teresa answers questions on priesthood

The yearning of Gods people for holy priets -Mother Teresa . . .. . .. .. it may take e few minutes to down loadthr file

Priests, with their human weaknesses, become instruments of salvation by putting themselves into the hands of Christ, says Benedict XVI

Every priest must "make Mary part of the dynamism of entire existence", says Benedict XVI.

If we had faith, we would see God hidden in the priest like a light behind glass or like wine mixed with water

PRAYER FOR PRIESTS

A PRAYER FOR PRIESTS
Keep them, I pray Thee, dearest Lord. Keep them, for they are Thine -- The priests whose lives burn out before Thy consecrated shrine. Keep them, for they are in the world though from the world apart. When earthly treasures tempt, allure – Shelter them in Thy heart. Keep them and comfort them in hours of loneliness and pain, when all their life of sacrifice for souls seems but in vain. Keep them and remember Lord, they have no one but Thee. They have only human hearts, with human frailty. Keep them as spotless as the Host, that daily they caress; they every thought and word and deed, deign, dearest Lord, to bless.

PRAYER FOR THE YEAR FOR PRIESTS

Lord Jesus, In Saint John Mary Vianney you have deigned to give the Church a living image of yourself
and a personification of your pastoral charity.
Help us during this Year for Priests to live good lives by being close to him and his example.
Grant that we may learn from the saintly Curé of Ars
how to rest contentedly before the Holy Eucharist;
to know that only your Word enlightens us each day;
to know how tender is the love with which you welcome repentant sinners;
how consoling is the confident abandonment to the care of the Holy and Immaculate Mother;
how necessary is the ever-vigilant battle against Evil.

Loving Father,
I praise you, I love you, I adore you.
Send your Holy Spirit to enlighten the minds of our priest
to the truth of your Son, Jesus,
Priest and Victim.
Through the same Spirit guide their hearts to his Sacred Heart,
to renew in them a priestly passion
that they, too, might lay down my life upon the altar.
May your Spirit wash away their impurities
and free me from all my transgressions
in the Cup of Salvation,

Let only your will be done in them.
May the Blessed Mother of your dearly beloved Son,
wrap her mantle around them and protect them from all evil.
May she guide me to do whatever He tells them.
May she teach them to have the heart of St. Joseph, her spouse,
to protect and care for the Church his bride.
And may her pierced heart inspire them
to embrace as their own your children
who suffer at the foot of the cross.
I humbly cry to her:
please be their consoling mother,
and help me to be a better son.
Lord, make them a holy priest,
inflamed with the fire of your love, seeking nothing
but your greater glory and the salvation of souls.
I humbly bless and thank you, my Father,
through the Spirit, in Christ Jesus,
your Son and my brother.
Amen.

O Mary, Queen of priests, pray for them.
Saint John Vianney, pray for them.

"That for the Church, God will not fail to provide Pastors who are rich in wisdom and holiness
and ready to defend the light of the Gospel to the very ends of the earth."
(John Paul II)

Most gracious Heavenly Father,

We thank you for our faithful priests and bishops, whose spiritual fatherhood and example of fidelity, self-sacrifice, and devotion is so vital to the faith of your people.

May our spiritual fathers be guided by the examples of Saints Peter and Paul, all the Apostles and their saintly successors. Give them valiant faith in the face of confusion and conflict, hope in time of trouble and sorrow, and steadfast love for you, for their families, and for all your people throughout the world. May the light of your Truth shine through their lives and their good works.

Assist all spiritual fathers, that through your Grace they may steadily grow in holiness and in knowledge and understanding of your Truth. May they generously impart this knowledge to those who rely on them.

Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Prayer Before the Blessed Sacrament
for the Increase of Priestly and Religious Vocations

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Eternal Father,
Son of the Virgin Mary,
we thank you for offering your life in sacrifice on
the Cross, and for renewing this sacrifice
in every Mass celebrated throughout the world.

In the Power of the Holy Spirit
we adore you and proclaim
your living presence in the Eucharist.
We desire to imitate the love you show us
in your death and resurrection,
by loving and serving one another.

We ask you to call many young people to religious
life, and to provide the holy and generous priests
that are so needed in you Church today.
Lord Jesus, hear our prayer. Amen.

Archbishop Justin Rigali - St. Louis

Prayer for Priests
O Jesus, our great High Priest,
Hear my humble prayers on behalf of your priest, Father [N].
Give him a deep faith

a bright and firm hope
and a burning love
which will ever increase
in the course of his priestly life.

In his loneliness, comfort him
In his sorrows, strengthen him
In his frustrations, point out to him

that it is through suffering that the soul is purified,
and show him that he is needed by the Church,
he is needed by souls,
he is needed for the work of redemption.

O loving Mother Mary, Mother of Priests,

take to your heart your son who is close to you
because of his priestly ordination,
and because of the power which he has received
to carry on the work of Christ
in a world which needs him so much.

Be his comfort, be his joy, be his strength,

and especially help him
to live and to defend the ideals of consecrated celibacy. Amen.

John Joseph, Cardinal Carberry (+1998)
Archbishop of St. Louis 1968-1979

Be merciful, spare us, Jesus.

From rashly entering the clergy, * deliver us, Jesus
From the sin of sacrilege,
From the spirit of incontinence,
From sordid pursuits,
From every lapse into simony,
From the unworthy administration of the Church’s treasures,
From the love of the world and its vanities,
From the unworthy celebration of Your Mysteries,
Through Your eternal priesthood,
Through the holy anointing whereby You were constituted a priest by God the Father,
Through Your priestly spirit,
Through that ministry whereby You glorified Your Father on earth,
Through the bloody immolation of Yourself made once and for all upon the Cross,
Through that same sacrifice daily renewed upon the altar,
Through that divine power which You exercise invisibly in Your priests,
That You would deign to maintain the whole priestly order in holy religion, * We beseech You, hear us
That You would deign to provide Your people with pastors after Your own heart,
That You would deign to fill them with the spirit of Your priesthood,
That the lips of Your priests might preserve true knowledge,
That You would deign to send faithful workers into Your harvest,
That You would deign to multiply the faithful dispensers of Your Mysteries,
That You would deign to grant them perseverance in the service of Your will,
That You would deign to give them gentleness in their ministry, resourcefulness in their actions, and constancy in prayer,
That through them You would deign to promote the veneration of the Blessed Sacrament everywhere,
That You would deign to receive into Your joy those who have served You well,
Lamb of God, Who take away the sin of the world, spare us, 0 Lord
Lamb of God, Who take away the sin of the world, graciously hear us, 0 Lord
Lamb of God, Who take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us, 0 Lord
Jesus, Our Priest, hear us
Jesus, Our Priest, graciously hear us

Let us pray:
O God, Sanctifier and Guardian of your Church, raise up in her through Your Spirit suitable and faithful dispensers of the holy Mysteries, so that by their ministry and example, the Christian people may be guided under Your protection in the path of salvation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
O God, who, while the disciples were worshiping and fasting, ordered Saul and Barnabas to be set apart for the work to which You had called them, be present now to Your Church in prayer, and You, who know the hearts of all, indicate those whom You have chosen for ministry. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
(This prayer was prayed in Latin by Pope John Paul II as a seminarian in Cracow,
and often in later life as well.)
